Our last day.
Difficult to know that once you leave you're thrown back into reality and back
to normal everyday things.
That's the beauty of being on vacation.
The girls cuddling before the madness of trying to get checked out by 10am.
But we had time to take a few pictures.
Thank you Nana and Pa for letting us share your timeshare!
We absolutely loved spending the week with you and had so much fun.
The girls are in loove with you both!
Thankfully the only picture like this we took came out ok.
Our day began earlier but we finally got on the road (after breakfast, a snack run and filling up the gas tank) at 1045. We made the trip back to VaB in 6.5 hours!!!! Which is amazing!
Some tricks that Mike and I discovered along the way while traveling with two kids:
*Mike and I had to suck it up and in. One of us rode in the backseat between the girls the entire way home. We took turns sitting back there and driving which took the crying/whining down to a whole new low.
*We opened the windows. Luckily it was a gorgeous day, sunny with a cool breeze and so the fresh air felt good. But the open windows created this white noise that kocked the girls OUT! They were both wide mouthed asleep for the first two hours and the silence along with the breeze, fresh air and sunny skies was the perfect way to begin our trek home.
*Our kiddie cds. Yep, I think we listed to the two cds we have full of kid songs the entire way. We all know every song, we do hand motions and everyone else on the road probably thought we were crazy especially since we were doing all of this with the windows open :) But, the girls loved it and it kept them entertained.
*No rush approach. Mike and I had the mindset of...when we get there, we get there. We were completely prepared to get home after it turned dark so we took our time. When we stopped for a potty break, we made sure to take short walks and play in the fields. Although the girls weren't fans of getting back into the car, it helped to get out and stretch.
*Emma's new car seat. Before we left VaB we bought Miss Emma a convertible car seat. So that means she is no longer in the infant seat and it's wonderful! She's high enough to see out the window, she's definitely more comfortable and she can look over and see Lily. It made a world of difference.
*Dvd player. We only used it the last hour part of the drive and definitely gave us the "umph" to get home.
We were dreading this ride but *knock on wood* we think we have it down now. We're a car trip family and hopefully this will be the "normal" kind of trip we have for now on.
But, one thing is for sure...We're happy to be home...
