January 2009

This time last year we had a newly turned 9 month old. Lily was definitely developing her little personality, able to like or dislike things and vocalize them, began eating like a champ since her teeth finally started coming in, stood and wanted to walk everywhere...you know with us bent over breaking our backs to hold those little hands. All of which meant gates went up and Lily- proofing the house went into full force.
This year we now have a 21 month old, yikes! That means that in short three months we will not only have a newborn but a 2 year old!!! She has been doing amazing things everyday and hopefully this year I will be more apt to be aware of them and post them.
Lately, Lily loves to hide things from us. Just like when she began playing peek-a-boo with us and we could still see half of her face, we can still see the item she hides but she thinks it's genius! Her favorite things to hide are her kitty cat, baby doll and things in the bath (she hides things behind her, from Mike, but then doesn't realize that they float back around to the front of her, too funny!) The cutest thing about this is that when she hides something she says, Mama or Dada and puts her hands palms up and shrugs her shoulders and smiles...adorable!!
She is now tall enough to not only reach the counter and open drawers that we forgot to put latches on but she can open them, reach in and pull things out...ugh. This is on our list for the weekend. Lily also has a knack of finding the pile of things on a table or counter that you just don't want her to get into and of course she does, so we end up pushing the entire pile back or moving it completely to another location (now you know the reason for one of my resolutions!)
Although Lily brightens our day, everyday; there are some things that don't. Like her increasing urge to have tantrums, fits and outbursts. I'm fortunate to say that none of these things have happened in public yet, but I'm definitely getting prepared for them.
Last January, we weren't aware of what was in store for us with an impending toddler. Not that we are that much more prepared now but we have an idea of what is to come. Hopefully Lily and Emma will take it easy on us, hopefully?!?
