...a trip to the CHKD Emergency Room.
First, I have to say how blessed we are to live so close to such an amazing children's hospital. This is our second trip to the ER in almost a year along with being there for Lily's nose surgery when she was 8 months old. We can not say enough good things about the hospital and the staff! They are so wonderful!
So now to the story. While at Lorelei's party Lily lined up all of the kiddie chairs so that the kids could be involved with the adult conversation. Something she does at home and is kinda cute. But today as she was jumping over Lorelei she tripped over her own feet and fell right into one of the tanish chairs. Mike and I said, "Lil you're ok, just brush yourself off." Which she normally does and she's on her way.
A good look at the chairs lined up
But this time as Lily lifted her head I could see blood dripping down her face and onto her arm. I looked at Mike and as he was swooping her up to take her into the kitchen I indistinctly threw Emma onto Elizabeth's lap and ran in after them. The blood, from a torn up inner lip and a nice size gash on the outer, was just not stopping. So, at this point I gathered up all of our stuff ran it down to the car, got the car started to cool it off and was time to go.

Lily in the car on the way home with the Stahl's blue towel...thanks guys!
In a matter of 10 minutes the four of us were on the way to our house, with me making a mental list of what we needed and then we were onto CHKD.
We got into the ER, got checked in with our fancy picture id badges, Lily got her vitals done and were taken back to the exam room pretty quickly. Not because of the severity of the cut, it just wasn't busy at all...thank goodness.
The Dr (a Resident) came back to evaluate her lip and very patiently befriended our Lily enough to get a close enough look at her lip. And, she said Lily needed stitches. It was in a place where Lily wouldn't leave it alone, it could get infected and would leave a nasty scar. So, the wheels were put in motion. Mike and I chose the oral med option to make her "loopy" enough to get stitches. And, it worked like a charm. After receiving three syringes full of different medicines she was out of it, and really funny. Funny to us for about 10 minutes and then it just made us sad to see our girl in that state. But it could have been worse.
The team of four came in. The Dr, nurse, "the muscle" and "the distractor" all took their respective places around our girl. Something I will never forget. The muscle guy wrapped Lily in a bed sheet so she looked like a caterpillar in a cocoon and the distractor stood at her head to show her toys and blew bubbles all while the nurse steadied her head while the doctor put two small stitches that will dissolve in her lip.
And what did Mike, Emma and I do? Mike stood up and watched and thankfully stood right in front of me so one, I couldn't watch and two, Lily couldn't see the tears streaming down my face and Emma slept in my arms the entire time. Lily did great. She cried and screamed but I was assured it wasn't due to pain it was because someone was holding her down. I don't blame her, I wouldn't like it either.
But, she got two Princess stickers and a grape slushy after they were done. And Lily did GREAT.
She passed out with Tinkerbell on the way home. After we got situated on the couch to watch a movie and have some dinner she got sick and threw up all of the grape slushy, supposedly a side effect of all of the meds she got. Talked to the main dr at the ER and was told to put her to bed and if she got sick anymore to call her back. UGH. But, all turned out ok.
I have to put this is...my husband is a such a wonderful Daddy. He took care of her at the party, at the hospital and slept on her bedroom floor to make sure was ok through the night. Your girls love you!

The next day...fine as can be.
She let me clean it, put neosporin on it and left it alone. By Tues evening the first stitch along with a scab fell off and Wed afternoon the second stitch came out. Thank goodness!
Mike and I are hoping this will be our last trip to the emergency room but odds really aren't in our favor.
